The journal Charon was the organ of the Charon Movement; it was founded and edited by Otto zur Linde and Rudolf Pannwitz (after 1906 edited by Otto zur Linde, at times together with Karl Röttger).
The Charon Circle endeavoured to hold a critical distance to Naturalism and can be regarded as the first precursor of Expressionism. The Circle strived towards a unity of poetry, religion and philosophy with everyday life.
Amongst the contributors to the Charon were Rudolf Paulsen, Hanns Meinke, Else
Lasker-Schüler and
Johannes Schlaf.
