The monthly magazine for literature and culture, Das Innere Reich, was published by Paul Alverdes and
Karl Benno von Mechow. With a circulation between 5,000 and 6,000 issues it reached a wide readership between 1934 and 1944. It was not conceived to be a National Socialists' instrument of propaganda and therefore covered a broad spectrum of literary forms of expression.
