In 1790 Carl Gren, professor at Halle, founded the Journal der Physik with the intentions of offering scientific reading to all serious Physicists and of spreading news on innovations. Not only did the journal include new articles, but also abstracts of publications which had been published by scientific academies. In 1795 the title of the journal was changed to Neues Journal der Physik.
